PLA filament is the most widely used material in desktop 3D printing – loved for its low warping, minimal odour, and ease of use. Made from plant-based sources, PLA (polylactic acid) is a bioplastic and a more environmentally conscious choice compared to fossil-based materials like ABS.

At Filamentive, we’ve taken this a step further. Our PLA 3D printer filament is made using 50% recycled content from industrial waste streams – helping reduce plastic waste while maintaining the high quality you expect. It’s the perfect balance of sustainability and performance.

Ideal for prototypes, toys, consumer products, and everyday prints, this PLA filament delivers strong layer adhesion and a smooth surface finish with minimal effort.

✅ 50% recycled material – reduce plastic waste to landfill without compromising quality
✅ Excellent print reliability – low warping, minimal stringing, strong layer bonding
✅ Compatible with most FDM/FFF 3D printers – including Bambu Lab, Prusa, Creality, and UltiMaker
✅ Bambu Lab AMS compatible – filament tested for reliable automatic material changes
✅ Trusted filament UK brand – Filamentive is known for sustainable, high-performance materials

Sustainability

Sustainability Profile: PLA

Product Overview

Material name: PLA (Polylactic Acid)

Origin: Bioplastic typically derived from renewable, plant-based sources such as corn starch

Manufacturing location: European Union (using audited partner production facilities)

Environmental Credentials

Recycled content: 50% (percentage by weight; based on supplier material declarations)

Recycled Material: Post-industrial recycled (PIR) material recovered from controlled manufacturing waste streams

Carbon footprint: Supplier data indicates a significantly reduced carbon footprint compared to virgin PLA, due to recycled content use and localised production. Full life cycle assessment (LCA) in development.

Packaging: 100% recyclable cardboard spool; spool-less refill also available. Check local guidelines.

Shipping: Manufactured in Europe, warehoused and distributed from the UK. All non-palletised shipments use DPD’s carbon-neutral delivery service, reducing transportation emissions for UK and EU customers.

Circularity & End-of-Life

Biodegradability: PLA is technically biodegradable under industrial composting conditions (typically requires sustained temperatures of ≥55°C and specific microbial conditions). It is not home-compostable, and availability of industrial composting varies by region – please check locally.

Recycling: Fully compatible with Filamentive's PLA recycling scheme. Alternatively PLA can be mechanically recycled to produce recycled filament or upcycled into other products by the end-user.

Disposal/reuse guidance: PLA is not typically accepted in household plastic recycling. Please check local facilities or use Filamentive’s PLA recycling scheme if eligible.

Certifications & Standards

ISO: Production partners operate under certified quality and environmental management systems (EMS) such as ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.

RoHS & REACH compliant: Free from restricted and hazardous substances, in line with UK and EU regulations

Internal testing: Every batch is tested for extrusion consistency and dimensional tolerance. Material is verified on in-house 3D printers to ensure reliable print performance and minimal variation across colours and batches.

Supporting Sustainability at Filamentive

I have been printing with Filamentive PLAfor years and have never had any issues with their filament.

I must remember that the 1KG spools don’t fit in the Bambu Lab AMS without re-spooling.

I have printed over seven km of Filamentive filament on my Prusa i3 mk3s, much of it white PLA and have been delighted with it. That’s why I keep coming back for more.

    Prints great.

Great filament, good quality. Made a world of difference to my 3d printing vs the cheaper filament I was using earlier.

  15. Paola Simoes

This filament is fantastic, I used it for my business orders, it is super high quality and it prints beautifully. I don’t have a heated bed, which is sometimes a problem for some filaments, but not this one. I especially love that the spool is made out from cardboard, as all the filaments I have purchased in the past the spools are made from plastic, so that’s also a win. Can’t wait to try some more colours.

Amazing PLA! The filament is great, I actually used it to print some of my business orders, and the filament is super high quality and it prints beautifully. Can’t wait to try more colours out.

My first time with this filament. I wanted to buy British, and try and use some with recycled content. This filament does both. No problems with printing. Lower temperatures for the bed (60) and the nozzle (200) solved the problems I had with warping on my “Printbite” surface. Finish is as good if not better than other standard PLA. I will be using this as my default PLA filament in the future and will certainly be trying their PETG when I next need some

    Prints well, minimal stringing.

We’ve been using Filamentive material for a while now. The rPLA gives of a bright white and is very easy to print and prints very well! Love the very strong cardboard filament holders too, very good for the environment.

  23. Will (verified owner)

I have printed about 500g of filament so far, the prints have come out nicely with a good surface finish and great layer adhesion. The larger reel size is nice, and it is nice that the card spools are recyclable.

  24. Matthew

This is fantastic stuff to print with, we have our printers running nearly 24/7 and print about 10kg a month. We count on Filamentive PLA becuase its so reliable and the parts come out absolutely perfect.

  25. Stuart Dransfield (verified owner)

I have printed over 20kg of the white and I love it, always consistent, never a problem with blockages. I print on a Prusa i3MK2 with a bed temp of 50 and nozzle at 205 first layer and 203 for all others.Great value superb quality filament.

  26. Alex Gibson

Printed very nicely on several printers including MakerBot Replicator 2 (very fussy, prone to jamming on bad quality filament) and Creality CR-10. I printed at 230 degrees on both without issue. Results are consistent and overall impression is of a ‘premium’ filament, so I’m delighted this is possible with recycled material.
