Bio HT — bio-based, heat resistant filament for performance
Filamentive Bio HT is a drop-in, high-performance material designed for applications where appearance and mechanical stability at temperature both matter.
As a heat-resistance filament, Bio HT maintains stiffness and dimensional stability far beyond standard PLA-type materials while printing with dependable, low-warp behaviour and a clean, semi-matte aesthetic.
Why choose Bio HT for your 3D Printing?
- High temperature capability – VICAT 160 °C (VST A, 4 mm) and HDT/B ~115 °C* for fixtures, enclosures and functional prototypes exposed to elevated temperatures.
- Mechanical performance – High rigidity with strong flexural and impact properties for robust end-use parts.
- Semi-matte finish hides layer lines and looks professional straight off the printer.
- Bio-based & oil-free – Polymer derived entirely from renewable feedstocks, reducing reliance on fossil resources.
- Biodegradability claim made clear – Base polymer is biodegradable under controlled industrial composting per DIN EN ISO 14855; note: this does not mean biodegradable in landfill or home compost.
- Food-contact acceptable – The base polymer holds FDA food-contact status
Typical 3D Printing Applications
Jigs and fixtures, electronics housings and brackets, lighting components, automotive interior prototypes, tools for production lines, and parts that see intermittent heat or warm operating environments where standard PLA and PETG fall short.
Printability & usage notes
- Prints on most open-material FFF printers with standard 0.4 mm nozzles.
- Print temp: 215±25°C
- Bed temp: 0-50°C
- Cooling: up to 100%
- Minimal warping; enclosure generally not required.
- For maximum heat performance, use solid perimeters/infill where needed and consider annealing if your application allows (trial recommended).
Thermal data (VICAT/HDT) are from test specimens; real-world performance varies with part geometry, infill, wall thickness, orientation and print/anneal settings.

Sustainability
Sustainability Profile: PLA
Product Overview
Material name: Bio HT (High-temperature biopolymer blend)
Origin:100% biopolymer material derived from natural, renewable sugarcane sources.
Manufacturing location: European Union (using audited partner production facilities)
Environmental Credentials
Bio-based content: 100% (derived from renewable plant-based feedstocks)
Carbon footprint: Lower than fully fossil-based alternatives with similar thermal and mechanical properties. Full life cycle assessment (LCA) in development.
Packaging: 100% recyclable cardboard spool; spool-less refill also available. Check local guidelines.
Shipping: Manufactured in Europe, warehoused and distributed from the UK. All non-palletised shipments use DPD’s carbon-neutral delivery service, reducing transportation emissions for UK and EU customers.
Circularity & End-of-Life
Biodegradability:Certified biodegradable under industrial conditions in accordance with DIN EN ISO 14855. Availability of industrial composting varies by region – please check locally.
Recycling:Not compatible with Filamentive’s PLA recycling scheme or conventional plastic recycling systems. Bio HT can be mechanically recycled to produce recycled filament or upcycled into other products.
Disposal/reuse guidance: Reuse encouraged due to long-lasting performance. If access to industrial biodegradation infrastructure exists, please prioritise this as the most sustainable end-of-life solution.
Certifications & Standards
DIN EN ISO 14855: Confirms aerobic biodegradation in controlled composting conditions.
ISO 9001 and ISO 14001: Production partners operate under certified quality and environmental management systems (EMS).
RoHS & REACH compliant: Free from restricted and hazardous substances, in line with UK and EU regulations
Internal testing: Every batch is tested for extrusion consistency and dimensional tolerance. Material is verified on in-house 3D printers to ensure reliable print performance and minimal variation across colours and batches.
Supporting Sustainability at Filamentive
Bio HT delivers the technical performance of engineering polymers, with the added benefit of certified biodegradability (under industrial conditions). With a 100% bio-based formulation, Bio HT enables sustainability-conscious users to reduce plastic impact while meeting heat-resistance requirements — ideal for replacing ABS, ASA or PC in lower-impact, more circular applications.
