ReFill Filaments
What are ReFill Filaments?
Refill Filament offers a more sustainable alternative to traditional spooled filament.
By eliminating the need for plastic reels, operators can reuse existing plastic filament spools, such as the Bambu Reusable Spool, or even 3D-print their own master spool.
Discover Filamentive’s Bambu Lab AMS-compatible recycled filaments, made with up to 99% recycled material, offering next-day UK delivery at no added cost and free PLA waste recycling scheme for sustainable Bambu Lab 3D printing.

How to use ReFill filament with Bambu Lab Reusable Spool
- Gather your reusable BambuLab spool and Filamentive Refill filament
- Open your Filamentive Refill packaging
- Handle with Care: Remove the filament from its box, then gently peel back the foil’s closure, taking care not to tangle or knot the filament. Lay the filament on your prepared surface.
- Position the notch on the cardboard core of the Filamentive Refill filament so it aligns with the pin on the BambuLab spool.
- Ensure your BambuLab reusable spool is clean and free from any leftover filament. Place the filament onto the spool, fitting the cardboard core notch into the spool’s pin.
- Attach the second part of the spool and screw it on securely to hold the filament in place.
- Using scissors, carefully cut away the four transparent security strips around the spool. Discard these strips responsibly.
- Your Filamentive ReFill filament is set up and ready for your 3D printing projects! Enjoy a sustainable printing experience with improved Bambu Lab AMS compatibility

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a filament refill and how does it differ from a standard spool?
A filament refill is a spool-less roll of filament wound around a cardboard core — no plastic reel included. Where a standard spooled filament comes mounted on a plastic spool you discard after use, a refill is designed to be loaded onto a reusable spool instead. This reduces single-use plastic waste by approximately 20% compared with traditionally spooled filament, and typically costs around 25% less. Filamentive ReFill filaments use a cardboard core that aligns directly with reusable spools including the Bambu Lab Reusable Spool.
Is Filamentive ReFill filament compatible with Bambu Lab AMS?
Yes — Filamentive ReFill filaments are compatible with the Bambu Lab AMS where listed as compatible on the product page. ReFill V2 features a notch-and-pin design that aligns directly with the Bambu Lab Reusable Spool, allowing it to feed reliably through the AMS without modification. We recommend using the Bambu Lab Reusable Spool and selecting the appropriate filament profile in Bambu Studio for best results. Filamentive is an independent brand and is not officially associated with or endorsed by Bambu Lab.
Can Bambu Lab printers use third-party filament?
Yes — Bambu Lab printers can use third-party filament, including Filamentive ReFill. Bambu Lab printers use standard 1.75mm filament and are not locked to first-party material. For AMS use, third-party filament refills need to be loaded onto a compatible reusable spool. Filamentive ReFill PLA and ReFill PETg are both widely used in Bambu Lab X1, P1, and A1 series printers across the UK.
Where can I buy Bambu Lab compatible filament refills in the UK?
Filamentive stocks Bambu Lab-compatible filament refills in the UK with free next-day delivery. Our ReFill PLA and ReFill PETg are made with up to 99% recycled material and are designed to work with the Bambu Lab Reusable Spool and AMS. All orders are dispatched from UK stock — no international shipping delays. Bulk orders of £99+VAT qualify for 30% off.
How do I load a filament refill onto a Bambu Lab reusable spool?
To load a Filamentive ReFill onto the Bambu Lab Reusable Spool, remove the refill from its packaging and carefully unwind the outer seal without tangling the filament. Lay the roll on a clean surface, align the notch on the Filamentive ReFill cardboard core with the pin on the Bambu Lab Reusable Spool, and press until secure. The filament end can then be fed into your AMS as normal. Full setup instructions are available on the individual ReFill product pages.
What is the best filament for Bambu Lab A1, A1 Mini, and P1S?
For most users, PLA is the best starting point for Bambu Lab A1, A1 Mini, and P1S printers — it’s reliable, easy to print, and works well at the print speeds these machines are designed for. Filamentive ReFill PLA is made with up to 99% recycled material and is compatible with the Bambu Lab AMS where listed. For functional parts requiring greater durability, ReFill PETg is a strong alternative. Both materials are available in UK stock with free next-day delivery.
Is Bambu Lab filament expensive — and is there a cheaper alternative?
Bambu Lab first-party filament is priced at a premium relative to third-party alternatives. Filamentive ReFill filaments are typically around 25% less expensive than traditionally spooled filament, without compromising on material quality. Made with up to 99% recycled content and supplied in spool-free ReFill format, they reduce both cost and plastic waste. Bulk orders of £99+VAT receive 30% off, making them well-suited to print farms, businesses, and university makerspaces.
Are Bambu Lab filament spools reusable?
Yes — Bambu Lab produces a dedicated Reusable Spool designed specifically to be used with filament refills rather than disposing of a new spool with every roll. The Bambu Lab Reusable Spool is compatible with Filamentive ReFill V2, which features a notch-and-pin cardboard core that clips directly into place. This reduces plastic spool waste by approximately 20% compared with standard spooled filament.
Can I recycle PLA filament waste from Bambu Lab printing?
Yes — Filamentive customers can access a free PLA waste recycling scheme, achieving 100% landfill diversion. This is particularly relevant for Bambu Lab AMS users, who generate PLA waste through purging, failed prints, and colour-change sequences. Eligible customers register, collect their waste, and arrange a free collection. If you qualify as a customer, no PLA waste from your Bambu Lab 3D printing goes to landfill.
Where is Filamentive ReFill filament made, and is it sustainable?
Filamentive is a UK filament brand specialising in sustainable 3D printing materials. Our ReFill filaments are made with up to 99% recycled material and supplied in spool-free cardboard-core format — eliminating the single-use spools. We are an independent UK brand, not affiliated with any printer manufacturer. All UK orders include free next-day delivery, and eligible customers can access our free PLA recycling scheme.
