- Wood PLA filament
- Realistic wood look, texture, and scent
- Easy to print, low warp – ≥0.5 mm nozzle recommended
- 100% recyclable cardboard spool
Filamentive Wood PLA is a unique composite material combining PLA with finely milled wood fibres to replicate the look, feel, and even aroma of real wood. With a warm, natural tone and textured finish, Wood PLA is perfect for aesthetic models, interior decor, and artistic applications where visual appeal is key.
This filament prints easily with low warping and consistent extrusion. We recommend using a 0.5 mm nozzle or larger to prevent clogging due to the fibrous composition. Wood PLA can also be post-processed – including sanding, staining, varnishing, or painting – for further enhancement.
While this filament does not contain recycled material, it is supplied on a 100% recyclable cardboard spool, aligning with Filamentive’s sustainable packaging standards.

Sustainability
Sustainability Profile: Wood PLA
Product Overview
Material name: Wood PLA (Polylactic Acid infused with wood fibres)
Origin: PLA base derived from plant-based renewable sources (typically corn starch or sugarcane); blended with natural wood fibres (e.g. sawdust or milled wood flour)
Manufacturing location: European Union (using audited partner production facilities)
Environmental Credentials
Recycled content: 0% (percentage by weight; based on supplier material declarations)
Base polymer source: Virgin PLA derived from renewable plant-based feedstock
Additive source: Natural wood fibres – typically by-product or waste from wood processing (non-certified)
Carbon footprint: Potentially lower than petroleum-based plastics due to bio-based feedstock. However, use of virgin PLA means environmental impact is higher than recycled PLA. No LCA currently available.
Packaging: 100% recyclable cardboard spool. Check local guidelines.
Shipping: Manufactured in Europe, warehoused and distributed from the UK. All non-palletised shipments use DPD’s carbon-neutral delivery service, reducing transportation emissions for UK and EU customers.
Circularity & End-of-Life
Biodegradability: PLA is technically biodegradable under industrial composting conditions (e.g. >55°C), but wood PLA is not compostable at home. Biodegradability may be reduced due to presence of wood fibres and processing additives.
Recycling: Not accepted in Filamentive’s PLA recycling scheme due to potential contamination from wood content. Not suitable for kerbside recycling.
Disposal/reuse guidance. Reuse of offcuts and failed prints is encouraged. End-of-life disposal should be through general waste streams. Composting or municipal recycling is not recommended.
Certifications & Standards
ISO: Production partners operate under certified quality and environmental management systems (EMS) such as ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
RoHS & REACH compliant: Free from restricted and hazardous substances, in line with UK and EU regulations
Internal testing: Every batch is tested for extrusion consistency and dimensional tolerance. Material is verified on in-house 3D printers to ensure reliable print performance and minimal variation across colours and batches.
Supporting Sustainability at Filamentive
While Wood PLA contains no recycled content, its bio-based origin and natural additives offer a visually sustainable aesthetic for specific use cases. Filamentive continues to develop new wood-based composites with circularity in mind – including future plans to incorporate recycled PLA base polymer and certified reclaimed wood sources.

Takes a few tweaks compared to standard rPLA on our setup, hotter nozzle (200->230) and hotter bed (50->60), and it needs the nozzle very close to the print bed to get good first layer adhesion, but once you’ve got it dialled in the results are brilliant. As advertised, it looks roughly like wood, smells like wood, very much feels like wood (just less mass), and sands really nicely. Definitely a useful filament. We do large prints on a 0.8mm nozzle and had no issues with clogging on a ~ 30cm x 30cm x 10cm test piece, including switching back to standard rPLA.

I had several failed prints with this at first which we traced to the filament snapping when the heating went off at night (gets brittle when cold). Moved the printer into a small room with a 24hr oil heater and it worked great.

Easy to print on my Prusa MK3 and looks great. Best wood 3D printer filament i’ve tried.
