- Matte PLA 3D printing filament
- Textured surface with reduced layer visibility
- 100% recyclable cardboard spool
- Compatible with most 3D printers including Bambu Lab AMS
Based on our popular PLA formulation, Filamentive PLA Matte has been specially developed to offer a smooth, textured surface finish with reduced layer lines. The result is a more refined appearance, perfect for display models, industrial design prototypes, and consumer-facing prints where visual impact matters.
PLA Matte maintains the excellent printing characteristics of standard PLA – low warp, minimal odour, and great adhesion – making it accessible for both beginners and professionals. While this filament does not contain recycled content, it is supplied on a 100% recyclable cardboard spool, reducing packaging waste and supporting eco-conscious 3D printing practices.
Please note: matte PLA filaments can be more abrasive than standard PLA, so we recommend using a hardened or steel nozzle for extended printing.
✅ Matte surface finish – enhanced visual quality and reduced layer visibility
✅ Easy to print – low warp, odour-neutral, great adhesion
✅ Compatible with Bambu Lab, Prusa, Creality, UltiMaker, and more
✅100% recyclable cardboard spool – sustainable packaging from a trusted filament UK brand
Printing temperature: 200±10°C
Bed temperature: ≤60°C
Nozzle: Hardened/steel recommended due to increased abrasiveness

Sustainability
Sustainability Profile: PLA Matte
Product Overview
Material name: PLA Matte (Polylactic Acid with matte additive)
Origin: Virgin PLA derived from plant-based renewable sources (typically corn starch or sugarcane), modified with matte finish additives to reduce gloss and improve surface aesthetics
Manufacturing location: European Union (using audited partner production facilities)
Environmental Credentials
Recycled content: 0% (percentage by weight; based on supplier material declarations)
Base polymer source: Virgin bio-based PLA from renewable agricultural feedstocks
Additives: Surface modifiers to reduce shine and increase opacity – non-biodegradable
Carbon footprint: Lower than fossil-based polymers due to the bio-based nature of PLA; however, no recycled content means environmental impact is higher than recycled PLA. No full LCA currently available.
Packaging: 100% recyclable cardboard spool. Check local guidelines.
Shipping: Manufactured in Europe, warehoused and distributed from the UK. All non-palletised shipments use DPD’s carbon-neutral delivery service, reducing transportation emissions for UK and EU customers.
Circularity & End-of-Life
Biodegradability: The PLA base is technically biodegradable under industrial composting conditions (typically requiring >55°C and specialised treatment). However, matte additives may reduce composting performance, and this product is not home compostable
Recycling: Accepted in Filamentive’s PLA recycling scheme. Not suitable for household recycling in the UK. Check locally.
Disposal/reuse guidance. Reuse of prints is encouraged where possible. At end-of-life, dispose of via non-recyclable waste channels, unless industrial composting or recovery infrastructure is available locally.
Certifications & Standards
ISO: Production partners operate under certified quality and environmental management systems (EMS) such as ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
RoHS & REACH compliant: Free from restricted and hazardous substances, in line with UK and EU regulations
Internal testing: Every batch is tested for extrusion consistency and dimensional tolerance. Material is verified on in-house 3D printers to ensure reliable print performance and minimal variation across colours and batches.
Supporting Sustainability at Filamentive
PLA Matte offers a professional surface finish for visual models and functional parts, while using a bio-based polymer as its foundation. Although it contains no recycled content, Filamentive is developing next-generation matte materials that incorporate recycled PLA to support increased circularity.

I’m using the matte pla for printing 150 parts for primary school projects. Parts will be painted/glued etc, the matte does
seem particularly good for this use.

Love the look and feel of Pla matte. I’ve used it for statue busts such as these heads of Roman Emperor Antoninus Pius.
In my village their used to be a Roman Fort called Petuaria. They found a plaque dedicating the construction of a theatre to Antoninus Pius and we’ve been digging trying to find the theatre. Look up ‘Petuaria Revisited’ for more info.

This was perfect for the project I had planned. A relief map.
Matte finishes are always nice but I’d had difficulties with layer adhesion with another brand of matte filament, but no such problems with this.
I’ll be trying the greys next.
This is ever-so-slightly on the grey side. It looks white in isolation, but when you put it on a white wall, it’s noticeable.
I didn’t change my profile from other filamentive filament and it just worked.

I’ve used this to print a few different items now including prototyping, mechanical applications and some for aesthetics and the all have come out with a really nice finish that seems to hide layer lines well.
It is very easy to print, no jams or failures so far just using standard PLA settings. It does seem to be a little more brittle than regular PLA which might be a consideration for certain applications, though in most cases this can be mitigated by adjusting slicing settings. I really like the cardboard spool, it is very strong but would benefit from a few additional holes to feed the end of the filament through when not in use. Will definitely buy again!
