Reach for the stars with PLA Cosmic - Silver (750g)
Our highly-rated PLA, now featuring metallic flakes to create prints that are "out of this world"
PLA; the staple of desktop 3D printing. Short for polylactic acid, PLA is a bioplastic derived from plant-based sources, meaning it is more environmentally friendly compared to ABS, for example. However, PLA production is depleting natural resources faster that they can be replenished. To address this issue, we have pioneered rPLA 3D printer filament, still boasting the same great PLA features such as; low warping, limited smell and premium print quality – but with the added benefit of being produced from factory waste streams as opposed to virgin pellets. All users of rPLA can feel good about reducing the demand for natural resources and therefore saving the environment, whilst being confident that the print quality will still be one of the best on the market! The go-to filament for all 3D printer owners, perfect consumer products, toys and general prototypes.
Tips
Recommended printing temperature: 205-225°C
Recommended heated bed temperature: Can be printed without, but if you have one, we recommend 50-60°C

Sustainability
Sustainability Profile: PLA Cosmic
Product Overview
Material name: PLA Cosmic (Polylactic Acid infused with glitter flakes)
Origin: Virgin PLA derived from plant-based renewable resources (e.g. corn starch or sugarcane); infused with coloured glitter particles for a decorative, iridescent finish
Manufacturing location: European Union (using audited partner production facilities)
Environmental Credentials
Recycled content: 0% (percentage by weight; based on supplier material declarations)
Base polymer source: Virgin, bio-based PLA from renewable feedstocks
Additive source: Non-biodegradable glitter flakes
Carbon footprint: While PLA base is bio-based, the lack of recycled content and addition of glitter increases overall environmental impact. No full LCA is currently available.
Packaging: 100% recyclable cardboard spool. Check local guidelines.
Shipping: Manufactured in Europe, warehoused and distributed from the UK. All non-palletised shipments use DPD’s carbon-neutral delivery service, reducing transportation emissions for UK and EU customers.
Circularity & End-of-Life
Biodegradability: Although the PLA base is technically biodegradable under industrial composting conditions, the glitter additive prevents compostability and may contribute to microplastic pollution.
Recycling: Accepted in Filamentive’s PLA recycling scheme. Not suitable for kerbside recycling but may be mechanically recycled in-situ if remanufacturing own filament via extrusion equipment.
Disposal/reuse guidance. Reuse is encouraged where possible. At end-of-life, parts should be disposed of through general waste channels or use Filamentive’s recycling scheme.
Certifications & Standards
ISO: Production partners operate under certified quality and environmental management systems (EMS) such as ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
RoHS & REACH compliant: Free from restricted and hazardous substances, in line with UK and EU regulations
Internal testing: Every batch is tested for extrusion consistency and dimensional tolerance. Material is verified on in-house 3D printers to ensure reliable print performance and minimal variation across colours and batches.
Supporting Sustainability at Filamentive
PLA Cosmic was developed to meet demand for eye-catching, decorative 3D prints. While this product contains no recycled content, it is accepted in Filamentive’s recycled scheme. Filamentive is actively researching eco-friendly glitter alternatives and more sustainable formulations to reduce the impact of decorative materials.

Steve Ellison (verified owner) –
I have been 3D printing for over a year and recently part of a community hub printing face visors frames for healthcare. During this time I used many rolls of PLA from several manufactures and by far this material gave the best print quality by far, and also was the easiest material to print with and tolerated a wide range in nozzle temperature and bed temp. (some PLA’s require a very precise nozzle temp). Highly recommend this material where metallic look is required or a high quality print.
