PLA filament is the most widely used material in desktop 3D printing – loved for its low warping, minimal odour, and ease of use. Made from plant-based sources, PLA (polylactic acid) is a bioplastic and a more environmentally conscious choice compared to fossil-based materials like ABS.

At Filamentive, we’ve taken this a step further. Our PLA 3D printer filament is made using 50% recycled content from industrial waste streams – helping reduce plastic waste while maintaining the high quality you expect. It’s the perfect balance of sustainability and performance.

Ideal for prototypes, toys, consumer products, and everyday prints, this PLA filament delivers strong layer adhesion and a smooth surface finish with minimal effort.

✅ 50% recycled material – reduce plastic waste to landfill without compromising quality
✅ Excellent print reliability – low warping, minimal stringing, strong layer bonding
✅ Compatible with most FDM/FFF 3D printers – including Bambu Lab, Prusa, Creality, and UltiMaker
✅ Bambu Lab AMS compatible – filament tested for reliable automatic material changes
✅ Trusted filament UK brand – Filamentive is known for sustainable, high-performance materials

Sustainability

Sustainability Profile: PLA

Product Overview

Material name: PLA (Polylactic Acid)

Origin: Bioplastic typically derived from renewable, plant-based sources such as corn starch

Manufacturing location: European Union (using audited partner production facilities)

Environmental Credentials

Recycled content: 50% (percentage by weight; based on supplier material declarations)

Recycled Material: Post-industrial recycled (PIR) material recovered from controlled manufacturing waste streams

Carbon footprint: Supplier data indicates a significantly reduced carbon footprint compared to virgin PLA, due to recycled content use and localised production. Full life cycle assessment (LCA) in development.

Packaging: 100% recyclable cardboard spool; spool-less refill also available. Check local guidelines.

Shipping: Manufactured in Europe, warehoused and distributed from the UK. All non-palletised shipments use DPD’s carbon-neutral delivery service, reducing transportation emissions for UK and EU customers.

Circularity & End-of-Life

Biodegradability: PLA is technically biodegradable under industrial composting conditions (typically requires sustained temperatures of ≥55°C and specific microbial conditions). It is not home-compostable, and availability of industrial composting varies by region – please check locally.

Recycling: Fully compatible with Filamentive's PLA recycling scheme. Alternatively PLA can be mechanically recycled to produce recycled filament or upcycled into other products by the end-user.

Disposal/reuse guidance: PLA is not typically accepted in household plastic recycling. Please check local facilities or use Filamentive’s PLA recycling scheme if eligible.

Certifications & Standards

ISO: Production partners operate under certified quality and environmental management systems (EMS) such as ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.

RoHS & REACH compliant: Free from restricted and hazardous substances, in line with UK and EU regulations

Internal testing: Every batch is tested for extrusion consistency and dimensional tolerance. Material is verified on in-house 3D printers to ensure reliable print performance and minimal variation across colours and batches.

Supporting Sustainability at Filamentive

6 reviews for Silver PLA 3D Printer Filament

I must remember that the 1KG spools don’t fit in the Bambu Lab AMS without re-spooling.

Great filament, good quality. Made a world of difference to my 3d printing vs the cheaper filament I was using earlier.

  3. SilverDynamicProps (verified owner)

I’m very impressed with my first reel. I’ve been printing for 5 yrs and now do this as a small business.

This is as good as Ultimaker (UM) material which I view as the best 3D Printing PLA filament available just now. However it’s 1/2 the price!

Like the UM material it produces nice fine layers (0.4mm nozzle) with minimal visible layers and no ooze or surface artefacts. Surface sanding and finishing is also easier as this material (again like UM brand) seems harder than other comparably priced PLA when it is printed.

The colour (Silver) is also good

  4. Katja Hönow (verified owner)

This is my absolute favorite silver PLA! I’ve compaired it to lots of other brands out there in the wild. But this one I really like best.

  5. Jason Smyth

I’ve tried various filaments from different companies and have to say I’m very impressed.

It’s cheaper than my previous go to brand who’s prices have been steadily rising and prints with the same quality and finish I’ve come to expect. On my Prusa MK3 I print at 215 first layer and 210 onwards with 60 for the bed and haven’t had a failed print yet.

I hate the plastic spools you end up accumulating but love the fact these are cardboard thus making it more environmentally friendly.

Looking forward to try the new matte filament when it’s out!

  6. Tony Davies

Just used up the sample that I got at the TCT show – Real quality filament – nice finish dialled in at 215c extrusion and 60c on the heated bed – printed some upgrades for my printer. Will be ordering soon.
