At Filamentive, our commitment to environmental responsibility is central to everything we do. Since 2021, we’ve partnered with Ecologi to support reforestation efforts, leading to the planting of 3,019 trees, 48 projects funded and the avoidance of 237.95 tCO2e. This collaboration has been a significant part of our sustainability strategy, and we’re grateful for the positive impact it has helped us achieve.
BBC Panorama Documentary, Ecologi Response and our Decision
The recent BBC Panorama investigation into the carbon credit market raised important questions about the accuracy and reliability of some carbon offset projects. In light of these findings and as part of our evolving sustainability strategy, we’ve decided to pause our tree planting commitment with Ecologi. This decision allows us to reassess and refine our approach, ensuring our efforts are both effective and transparent.

Upon reflection, we also recognise that our previous statement, “Offsetting 1 kg of CO2e for every 1 kg of filament produced,” could be open to interpretation. We understand that such wording might unintentionally convey vague or potentially misleading claims. As a company that values transparency, we are committed to providing clear and accurate information that our customers can trust, and we strive to avoid any form of “greenwashing.”
How we’re supporting Sustainable 3D Printing going Forward
At Filamentive, we’re committed to reducing our environmental impact in more direct and tangible ways. We prioritise the use of recycled materials in our products, ensuring that our filament is produced with sustainability in mind. We also use 100% recyclable cardboard spools and offer free PLA 3D printing waste recycling to help our customers minimise waste. Additionally, we’re expanding our spool-free ReFill range, which significantly reduces spool waste and supports a Circular Economy.
Our decision to pause tree planting reflects our commitment to focusing on environmental projects that provide immediate and measurable benefits. While reforestation is valuable, we believe it’s important to invest in initiatives that deliver direct, verifiable outcomes.
